FASHION OF THE 1960s
Like many young photographers in the era of fabulous fashion photography, Don Snyder originally sought to become a high-fashion photographer. His first book, Don Snyder’s World of Photography, featured some of his experiments in fashion photography and showcased his innovations in lighting and special effects. His work subsequently appeared on record jackets, book covers, and in periodicals such as The Village Voice, the East Village Other, The New York Times, McCalls, Rolling Stone, Print Magazine, and Modern Photography. He began receiving assignments from the prestigious hardcover quarterly Horizon and was sent to San Francisco in 1967 to photograph the emerging scene in Haight-Ashbury.
