NEW YORK IN THE 70s AND 80s
In the 1970s and 1980s, Don Snyder was captivated by the colorful club scene and radical avant-garde art of New York City.
Snyder frequented Max's Kansas City, an iconic nightclub that became a gathering spot for musicians, poets, and artists like Andy Warhol, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Gerard Malanga, and David Bowie.

HOTEL CHELSEA, THE ELECTRIC CIRCUS & THE LIVING THEATRE
Snyder documented after-parties at the Hotel Chelsea, located down the street from his photography studio. He was commissioned to produce a fantasmagoric backdrop for performers and clubgoers at the Electric Circus. He followed The Living Theatre and photographed performances of Paradise Now and Angus MacLise’s opera Orfeo. Using available light, he made a series of photographs which became part of his Paradise Now or Later series.
